“The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.” ~Robert A. Heinlein

You were told you had a choice.
You were told your vote, your job, your phone, your freedom—all mattered.
But what if the world you know is a curated illusion? In this book, we dismantle the polished surface of modern life to reveal the quiet machinery beneath it—run by global elites, shielded by complexity, and sustained by your obedience.
You were told you were free, but you are a slave.
You don’t need shackles when the prison is digital. You don’t need walls when the world outside your screen barely exists to you. You wake up tired, scroll past headlines you didn’t write, and go to a job where your time is traded for scraps. Meanwhile, the ones who shape your reality own no borders, obey no law but profit, and sleep just fine.
With brutal clarity, readers are offered not just a critique, but a guide to awakening: how to spot the systems of control, how to reclaim agency, and how to live eyes-open in a world built to keep you blind.
So begins Adrian Voss’ informative look at how we are all enslaved, despite the illusion of freedom. The world, Voss believes, is governed—and has always been governed— by those with wealth and power who have an army of corporations, lawyers, politicians, judges and police at their disposal, allowing them to alter the course of events to enhance their position and lives of luxury while the rest of society has to work harder for less, in an ever decliing spiral.
Tying together all aspects of society from education to entertainment, Voss offers a compelling look at how we are controlled even within the political partisanship which, he states, is the same organization offering you the illusion of choice.
The future Voss portrays is illustrated in our popular entertainment—movies and television and music—all conditioning an acceptance of the way things are, a very complicated landscape that tires out most people who choose not to dive deeply beyond social media venting and fixed opinions based upon what media has presented.
Voss also includes advice on escaping ‘The Matrix’ and finding truer freedom.
An excerpt from Chapter 1: The Modern Slave Handbook
So few people are awake. This is not “woke,” but awake—an awareness of the truths beneath the illusions that saturate our daily lives. Let’s face it: we don’t even know what our own government says, let alone anything else.
All past knowledge has been concealed from us. The Vatican Archives hold vast stores of information from the past, locked away from public view. Even scholars with permission are granted only limited access. We don’t know the full extent of what’s hidden. Are there answers to questions about earlier civilizations that came before us, buried in those forbidden vaults?
You have to ask yourself: Why have the rich and powerful been building bunkers for themselves? We’re not talking about new-money billionaires, but ancient wealth-families with power and resources that make even someone like Elon Musk seem modest by comparison. These are people whose fortunes and influence have been compounded over generations, quietly shaping the world from the shadows.
You Are Irrelevant
The elitist mindset is that they are ordained, and everyone else is irrelevant—slaves of the modern era. That’s you and me. Throughout history, there have always been class divisions: those with, and those without, who are ultimately dependent on those with.
Even in feudal times, peasants had nothing. There were three estates of the realm: the nobility, the clergy, and those who lived off their labour, most directly the peasantry, which was bound by a system of manorialism.
Lords and the wealthy owned the land. One way or another, you paid for the privilege of living there, and the lord had ownership over you and your family, often even your daughters. There was nothing you could do about it. If you tried, you were destroyed.
So, Who Represents You?
Ask yourself: if the government represents you, why do we know nothing of what they know? The Epstein files, the truth behind JFK’s assassination, UFOs—just to name a few. We do not know what the CIA does, nor the countless clandestine subdivisions that answer to nobody, not even the president.
Worse still, the government doesn’t even know the full reach of its own underbelly. Agencies within agencies, covertly funded, off the books, answering to unknown masters. That’s real power—not the figurehead, but the hidden hand.
Why did George Soros fund everything in the U.S. that seemed to unravel the fabric of the old civilization? From open borders to extremely progressive judges, his reach was vast, and still is. Because, in this worldview, few people are worthy of being saved.
Let me explain.
As it now exists, the system is rotted with functionally useless populations and corrupted organizations leeching off society without end, and all politicians are only trying to apply quick fixes to the systemic bleeding while losing none of the accumulated perks they have obtained through decades of employment. Let’s face it, Congress was never meant to be a retirement home for externally compensated supposed representatives of the people. In fact, the term ‘public servant’ implies a minimal salary and full representation of the needs of the public and not of special interest groups and lobbyists. But that is the system we have had for decades. And we wonder why America struggles to shine.
The only way to deal with the systemic rot is to tear it all down, purge those who do not serve us, and institute a strict new policy of term limits, harsh accountability, and full transparency. Of course, that is expecting too much in this age of corruption, lies, and deceit.
Instead, they—the real owners of the country— want to create a system of extreme conflict, where the confused masses fight amongst themselves for a political side they have been convinced to be true, to allow the system to ‘protect them’ even though Constitutional liberties are eroded in the process, and ultimately to become reliant on a savior—government— to control them.
Believe it or not, studies have been done that show a basic human need to be controlled. For a majority of the population. We will cover that later on.
The Big Event
Our world is so interconnected, our society so dependent on parts and pieces from a global variety of sources, that any event disrupting this supply chain could collapse society in a surprisingly short time.
Imagine the power grid suddenly going down.
Many have speculated that this is likely to happen, including Ted Koppel in his book Lights Out. Our grid is old and vulnerable. And under constant cyber attacks. In 2024 alone, there were 1,162 cyberattacks on utilities, a 70 percent increase from the prior year.
The North American Electric Reliability Corporation ( NERC) reported that the number of points along the electrical networks that were susceptible increased by approximately 60 per day, reaching between 23,020 and 24000 by the end of 2023. This should concern everybody. But we rarely hear about it. Certainly, our media won’t discuss it.
Most people have limited to no reserves of food, water, or even cash. While some people do manage to stockpile a few extra cans of food or some bottles of water, this falls short of what would be needed in a major emergency.
Do a quick calculation of how much food and water your family consumes in a day. Now project your need for three months or more. Chances are that if the power grid goes down, it will be a deliberate act, designed to force the citizenry to become obedient slaves.
The majority of the country is so dependent on technology that they have no idea what to do when it fails. Instead, they rely on a blind faith trust that the government will take care of them, that the government has their best interests at heart, and that they will be safe.
President Ronald Reagan said in 1986, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: ‘I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.’” Even he was skeptical about government intervention.
The first thing that happens after the lights go out for a day or more is that those without food or supplies attack those who have some. Before a week is up, chaos would ensue. Lawlessness. Starvation. Riots, home invasions, gangs seizing control of neighborhoods. Killings, rape, theft, leaving the average person helpless, injured, hungry, and unable to provide for themselves or their families.
There will be no government in sight at this point. There would be no police as their communication systems would be down, and the sheer quantity of chaos would inundate those out on patrol. There would be no TV, no Internet, no power, no water, food in refrigerators would quickly spoil, and temperatures would affect everybody, whether from extreme heat or extreme cold, depending on the time of year. It would be a dire survival situation.
For all the talk about guns and ammo, and protecting themselves, the weak link is that at some point, the ammunition runs out. Without the ability to refill or restock, these are only short-term solutions. Home fuel sources will run out. There will be no water. A bigger decision would be whether to stay put and defend your home, or to pack up and escape to a more remote setting where your family is less likely to be attacked.
Finally, after about a week, after the carnage is in full effect, the military steps in to “help” with food, water, and FEMA camps.
Many people will be delighted at that point to see them and happily follow instructions. Pack up what you can carry and get in the back of the truck that will take you to the nearest camp where you can have food, water, and shelter. It sounds so wonderful in the midst of absolute chaos.
The state now owns those who go. Any money you may have had is now inaccessible. You have no idea whether you’ll ever be able to reaccess it.
In exchange for protection, you might be coerced into signing a contract giving the government power over you and your estate, for your protection, of course. You’re immediately suspicious. Does this mean your home equity?
Any questions will be answered simply by asking if you want the government’s help in order to allow your family to survive these war-like conditions or not.
You’re told America is under attack by unseen forces. No one really knows anything or won’t tell you. So what are your choices? You could elect to decline and leave, defend yourself, but you already know you can’t do that. The week you just experienced proved to you how dependent you really are. If you were starving and desperate to protect your family, isn’t this what you would do without thinking?
In the 1950s, Solomon Asch’s ‘Asch Conformity Experiments showed that only 20% of people are truly independent thinkers, while the rest would conform to instructions even in the face of apparent falsehoods. These sentiments have been expressed by many others, such as George Orwell, Carl Young, and Stanley Milgram.
Just as people made numerous excuses for complying during the COVID years, justifying their actions for accepting the vaccine, masking, social isolation, and avoiding sunlight, suspending rational thought, and believing they were protecting themselves and others, it shows that it’s easier for people to believe an excuse than face reality. Blue pill or Red pill?
But sustaining millions of people in FEMA camps indefinitely is not a practical solution, even for the government. So what happens next?

Author Adrian Voss is an author and essayist whose writing explores the quiet collapse of the old world beneath the weight of modern distraction and globalist control. Having lived and worked in both Europe and the United States, Voss has developed a sharp eye for the subtle forces reshaping society, often unnoticed by those absorbed in the daily grind.
Through fiction and cultural commentary, Voss dissects the patterns behind rising elitism, the erosion of tradition, and the ways in which media, technology, and consumerism keep people detached from deeper truths.
